Hi.

Welcome to My Roaring Forties. I document what I’m thinking about, what I’ve learnt and what I’m trying to achieve

Running, Recovery & Restraint

I am ecstatic this week to have another week of positive progress on the running front with a total of 7.8km done with very little pain in the Achilles.  The specific details of the 2 runs completed was one run/walk round the tan with 5 run intervals and one run/walk with 10x1min run intervals.  We're doing at least 20 mins of brisk walking to warm up - I'm beginning to think that the need to focus on warming up and the recovery might just be the first real adjustment I'm having to make for being 40!  Accordingly, the foam roller is a permanent resident of the lounge and my teeth-brushing routine has been adjusted to include isometric calf-raises.  Doing the physio-prescribed calf-raises whilst tooth brushing has been an easy way to a: remember to do them every day and b: keep the pre-work morning routine efficient.  The 30 min walk everyday with the dogs gives me a little bit of peaceful time each day for mental recovery - to chat to Ant whilst we walk about our days, about what's been in the news, about how that day's exercise session went or just about nothing in particular.  It has become an important part of my day that I rely on to keep me on track, to keep me motivated and to keep me mentally relaxed.

Whilst I'm doing my calf-raises, I also remember to remind myself that the key to an effective comeback from the achilles issues is going to be restraint: it's so tempting to try and push to do the run intervals just a little bit faster, to do just an extra one interval or do an extra run during the week.

So there you have my Trifecta of Rs strategy - running, recovery and restraint!

The numbers this week are incrementally better:

TSS: The aspiration is to have a score between 700-1000, the actual this week was.....155 so a small increase on last week.

CTL: In pursuit of numbers in the 80-115 range, the actual this week was....19 so no movement there.

Search for the Golden Fleece was McQueen's first collection for Givenchy and the 55 looks were designed and constructed in just 25 days....that's slightly more than 2 couture outfits today. So not exactly #slowfashion then

You're welcome.
